Do you love a challenge? Mountain biking in the Jungfrau Region is becoming more and more popular and it isn’t difficult to understand why.
“There is nothing, absolutely nothing, quite so worthwhile as simply messing about on bicycles” – Tom Kunich.
Select your Mountain Biking experience
Choose a manual bike and work hard on the steep and long climbs and feel the reward of reaching the summit or the next vista. With stunning scenery all around, if the biking hasn’t yet taken your breath away, the view is sure to. One of our favourites: Sulwald with it’s vista of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau!
Upgrade to an e-bike for a more relaxed experience and let the motor assist you. With settings from eco, tour, sport to turbo mode you select how much leg power you want to exert – no more pushing uphill on those steeper sections. Test it out on the steeper gravel path from Allmend up to Wengernalp. And best of all – our batteries can be charged for free. Bosch e-bike charging stations, all over the entire region.
Downhill only can also be done in the Jungfrau Region but does require planning as some of the trains / cableways do restrict bikes. The Jungfrau Region website has all the details.
Mountain Biking Trails
The Jungfrau Region has everything from stimulating dirt trails for advanced bikers to safe and family friendly paths.
For serious downhill mountain biking, the Grütschtrail is steep and the curves tight but incredibly fluid with northshore elements, roots, dirt and stones.
For e-bikers we like the trail from Wengen up to Kleine Scheidegg via Mettlenalp. A steady uphill climb with ever more stunning vistas as you climb towards the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. If you are comfortable with narrower dirt tracks, you can also reach the Lauberhorn summit and stop off at the Start Bar for refreshments.
Mountain Biking Equipment
Mountain bike and E-bike hire is available at Central Sport in Wengen. Helmets and gloves also available. Use our 10% discount cards when spending over CHF 200.
Mountain biking is allowed on the hiking paths in the Jungfrau Region. It is recommended that mountain bikers avoid a few sensitive and frequented paths between 10 am and 4 pm from July until October. This is to maintain the peaceful coexistence of hikers and bikers.
