Schilthorn Skyline Cliff Walk
Cliff walks are relatively new to the Jungfrau Region. Spectacular mountain scapes at Schilthorn and First add that extra frisson to a thrilling cliff walk circuit. Wengen resort is ideally placed to explore the region. Furthermore Wengen, on its sunny shelf, presents a unique Alpine mountain resort experience. Southwards, across the valley from Wengen find the cableway to the Schilthorn. A ride short of the summit is the cliff edge of Birg at 2,700m above sea level. Here are ski runs and a mountain restaurant and the ’Skyline’ and ‘Thrill’ Cliff Walk. This is a super spot to gaze at the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau Mountains, take a selfie and also descend many steps to the cliff edge and the cliff walk!
Taking the opposite way, we can journey over or around the Männlichen Mountain to the First Cableway station at Grindelwald. There is nothing like a Swiss gondola ride and luckily this is a long one, around thirty minutes to the top. Arriving at First top station at 2167 m, we find the First Cliff Walk just around the corner. Finally, looping way over the cliff edge, enjoy a superb vista and venture to its extremity for the best photos! The Schreckhorn peak pierces the skyline to the left and the valley floor far below the cliff walk beckons.
Grindelwald-First Cliff Walk
The First Cliff Walk adjoins the scenic terrace of the Berg restaurant. A fine place to eat a potato Rösti and drink a creamy hot chocolate on clear days.
First, in addition, is a jumping off point for adventuresome paragliding flights before the north wall of the Eiger. Or more accessible is the adrenaline-rushing First Flyer, a top attraction. Hike to the famous Bachalpsee mountain lake and beyond to see the superb views form the Faulhorn summit.Please check operating times of cableways and First Flyer and hiking path open/closed status.
