“The Mountains are calling, and I must go” John Muir
The best way to travel to Mürren and reach the start of the Klettersteig / Via Feratta is to take the train to Lauterbrunnen. Then catch the gondola up to Grütschalp and then the scenic train across to Mürren. This journey takes approximately 45 minutes.
Valley and mountain views
From the unique entry point in Mürren you start the Klettersteig / Via Feratta by entering a tunnel at the sports Chalet. This leads you to immediately enjoy the beautiful views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Throughout the whole trail you can enjoy the spectacular views of the Valley, waterfalls and surrounding mountains, including the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau amongst many other mountain peaks in the Jungfrau Region.
The Klettersteig / Via feratta leads you from Mürren all the way down to Gimmelwald where you will enjoy scrambling down rocks, climbing ladders, traversing rock faces, balancing across bridges, crossing waterfalls and having the opportunity to enjoy the views from one of the base-jumping platforms. All this enjoyment whilst being attached to cables to keep you secure.
You will finish the trail at Gimmelwald just below the gondola station. Thereafter here you have two options to return to Wengen you can either take the gondola up to Mürren and reverse your journey to Grütschalp, Lauterbrunnen and up to Wengen which will take approximately 1 hour 10 mins. The other option is to take the gondola down to Stechelberg where you can admire the bridge at the end of the Klettersteig / Via Feratta. Then take a bus to Lauterbrunnen and a train up to Wengen which would take about 40 minutes.
